Gyms and Leisure centres have been open for several weeks now and our classes will be run following the same rigorous safety measures that you may have experienced in other venues and as recommended by the British Aikido Board. The BAB is now renewing Insurance for our sport provided these guideline are fully adhered to. SPK Instructors take their responsibilities very seriously, both in teaching and in following this guidance so you can expect the following at your class - track and trace system, temperature check, hand sanitizers, social distancing, no shared use of equipment i.e. weapons ( if you do not possess your own please let us know prior to attendance and we can make sure some will be available for your personal use). As and when mats are used they will be sanitised after use. Changing facilities will not be in use so please attend in comfortable clothing that you can exercise in. It is not necessary to wear a gi at this time. Classes will be aimed at maintaining body conditioning and skills for aikido. There will be NO contact. Lessons will include body movement (taisabaki), good posture, balance in motion, breathing coordination and flexibility all essential for your aikido as well as general health and fitness. Weapons management and practice, including solo (suburi) exercises together with distanced partner work afford an ideal opportunity for technical development and to understand both the origins of aikido and the close relationship to body art. As such, classes are designed and intended for practitioners at all levels and beginners are especially welcome. If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact us. Obviously, if you think you are suffering from any Covid symptoms please do not attend. We look forward to seeing you!

Shun Poo Kan Aikido COVID-19 Class suspension ##

It is with regret that we are announcing a suspension of classes until further notice due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Following Government advice to practice social distancing, we feel it is the only correct and responsible course of action to take.

Although many Aikidoka are fit and healthy it is possible to carry this virus without showing symptoms and pass it to others who may ne vulnerable, elderly, or with underlying health conditions, and put them at risk.

Even amoung younger age groups it is thought that of those who contract the virus 38% may require hospital treatment putting even more strain on the NHS.

This is a national effort to flatten the curve of infection and we must do our part.

We hope to resume classes at the earliest appropriate time. We will be posting videos periodically on the Facebook page for students to study during the downtime.

Thank you for your understanding.

Listed below is our class timetable, with details of each Dojo. Junior classes are from age 8 to 16 years and senior classes are from age 16 years and upwards. We welcome all beginners to any of our classes as our instructors will be more than willing to accomodate you. All we ask is that you wear loose comfortable clothing, such as a tshirt and jogging bottoms, and to remove any items of jewelery, watches and anything from your pockets.
